History of the FITB

Below are key events in the history of the FITB.

1971 The International Tchoukball Federation (FITB) is founded by Switzerland and France with tchoukball's creator, Dr Hermann Brandt as president.
1972 Great Britain (under the old name of the British Tchoukball Association) joins the FITB.
1972 Dr Brandt passes away, and is replaced by Dr Théodore Werey at the 1973 General Assembly of the FITB.
1975 An international development plan is created by the FITB Executive Council to spread tchoukball throughout the world.
1976 The first major international tournament takes place, between France, England and Switzerland.
1977 John Andrews, secretary of the FITB introduces tchoukball to Taiwan, where it is immediately extremely popular.
1984

The first FITB International Tchoukball Tournament takes place in Taiwan - August 21st - 23rd

1987 FITB International Tchoukball Tournament in Neuchâtel – July 27th to August 3rd

1989 Tchoukball is showcased at the World Games in Karlsruhe, Germany: 26-27 July

1990

World Tchoukball Tournament Portsmouth – August 7th to 10th

1995 Due to the Ryacin terrorist attack in Japan, the 1995 tchoukball tournament is cancelled.
1998 Tchoukball is introduced to Brazil by Ocelio Antonio Ferreira.
2000

In 2000, the 30th year anniversary of tchoukball, the first international tournament for 10 years is organised. The FITB World Tchoukball Championship in Geneva – August 9th to 13th 2000.

2002

Great Britain hosts the next FITB World Tchoukball Championships at Loughborough University, England - August 21st to 25th 2002.
