On the 5th September, the Director of International Development, Julio Calegari, travelled to Abidjan in the Ivory Coast to conduct a level C coaching course and a one full day training session of the first national squad. The coaching course and training were held in the city of Grand Bassam and 15 athletes and PE teachers participated. On to Ghana where they spend the night before taking part on 09 September in the first friendly match between the two nations.
The match was held at Bojo beach and was the first trial of this venue for the upcoming first African Beach Tchoukball Championships to be held in Accra, Ghana in August 2018.
The final score of the match saw Ghana win 55-31 Ivory Coast and it was a great experience for both teams. For the Ivorians, it was their first ever first international tchoukball match after becoming members of the FITB this August. For the Ghanaians, it was an opportunity to gain a lot of experience after the participation of their coach and player at the World Beach Tchoukball Championships in Taiwan.
Julio spoke warmly about the event:
I have had a very warm welcome from my hosts here and the coaching course was well received. It was great fun getting these 2 countries together and the game provided an opportunity for the teams to get a real flavour of the benefits of international tchoukball. I can't wait to work in Ghana next year for the 2018 African Beach Tchoukball Championships.
